paper doll series

i began my “paper doll” series as a way to come to terms with my chronic illness.  i wanted to explore the idea of what you see versus what you get (or, what you present versus how you feel physically).  paper dolls were a favorite among my friends when we were children.  even though the dolls and their corresponding wardrobes were fake, they were meant to be a depiction of real life.  were they purely make-believe?  were they inspirational figures?  or were they something a little more toxic, like something that society would deem us to be?  the question(s) may be rhetorical, but this series has definitely become an exercise in social psychology.
